Welcome to episode #49 Decluttering Your Finances for a Fresh Start. I feel like this is the perfect time for this episode since we are now a couple of weeks into the new year.
Just as we tidy up our living spaces for clarity and peace of mind, our financial lives deserve the same attention. Join me as we explore the importance of decluttering your finances and how it can lead to a fresh start in your journey to financial well-being. Let's declutter those financial corners and pave the way for a clearer, more intentional path to success.
Financial clutter is things that have to do with your money that are taking up physical space or mental space. It could include unnecessary subscriptions, untracked expenses, or disorganized financial records.
Financial clutter can impact stress levels (for the negative and hinder your financial goals. I know for me, when my finances are a mess, I feel the stress of that. When I have bills, unpaid and paid lying around the house I feel overwhelmed. I need to use a system of keeping my financial documents organized and clutter-free.
I also need to have a system in place for paying my bills, creating my budget, and hitting my savings goals. I need this system to work for me so that I don’t have to think about these things constantly, so I can free up some of the space inside my head and brain for other important things.
When I found myself in a financial crisis, I decided then and there that I would create a system that worked well for me and my family. I created my first budget and I’ve tweaked that and what budgeting methods I use to fit my personality and lifestyle.
I actually use a combination of a few different budget methods to form one that works for my brain and schedule.
I automate as many bills and savings as possible and I recommend you do the same. When you automate things, you set it and forget it. you don’t really have to think about it again. This helps clear up mental and physical space, I don’t have to worry about late fees from me not remembering to pay my bills on time, and I am saving way more money by automating my savings and retirement than if I had to remember to save the money each paycheck or each month.
