In this conversation activist Tone Frank from Greenland and activist and poet Sylvia Thomas from the US discuss activist strategies, art and performance as tools for decolonisation, queer liberation and dismantling the patriarchy with host CHIEF.

This podcast is a recording of the talk "Decolonising Queer activism" that took place on stage at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen on August 18th 2021 as part of FLUID Festival.

FLUID Festival is a space that celebrates women, genderqueer and non-binary identities during Copenhagen 2021. Talk Town and FLUID festival joined forces joined forces to host a series of interesting talks during WorldPride in Copenhagen 2021. 

About the Speakers: 

Sylvia Thomas is a poet and activist from the United States. She identifies as a Queer, Transgender, and Intersex woman. Her poetry reflects LGBTQ+ History, sexuality, being Transgender, living in the Midwest of the United States, and joy. She has been performing spoken word poetry for 6 years, giving a voice for Queer and Transgender people in her community. Sylvia is excited to return to Copenhagen since her last visit in Winter Pride 2018. Sylvia also dedicates her time working in her community. She works at a Non-Profit providing services in HIV Prevention. in order for the Transgender community to have component medical care in her state, Sylvia consults with medical providers in providing proper medical services. She is also an organizer for TRANSGLAM, an event in her city to make joyful space for the Transgender community in Indiana. 

Tone Frank is a lesbian indigenous Inuk from Nuuk, Greenland. Tone works with an intersectional approach in her advocacy for liberation for indigenous peoples and for the queer community. She is currently based in Copenhagen and is a board member of Nalik, an NGO that advocates and works towards for decolonization and creating equality for Inuit.

About the host:
CHIEF is a rapper from Copenhagen who, with her political consciousness, creates a new wave of activism through music.
CHIEF has an Old-School vibe with the ordinary sound we know from the hip hop scene today. She is active in human rights and antidiscrimination activism.
