🎙️ Deep Dive Drive – Episode 37: When Players Stop Listening

Listen Later

In this episode of Deep Dive Drive, recorded on my morning commute, I tackle a difficult but important reality in coaching:

What happens when players stop listening?

Every coach experiences it at some point — instructions aren’t landing, engagement drops, body language changes, and your voice doesn’t seem to carry the same weight.

But when that happens, the first question shouldn’t be, “What’s wrong with them?”

It should be, “What can I adjust?”

In this episode, I explore:

  • Why players sometimes switch off
  • The difference between repetition and over-coaching
  • How connection, clarity, and consistency impact attention
  • When you might need to change your delivery
  • Why listening is a two-way process

This episode isn’t about blaming players.

It’s about reflecting on leadership.

Sometimes players stop listening because they’re overwhelmed.

Sometimes because they’re bored.

Sometimes because the message has become noise.

If you’re a coach, this episode is a reminder to step back, reassess, and reconnect — because influence isn’t about volume, it’s about impact.

Adapt the message. Rebuild the connection.

One drive at a time.
