Have you ever heard the tale of a hitchhiking ghost? There are many different versions of the same story. 

A person, usually a girl, is seen on the side of the road, seemingly flagging down passersby. The night is usually rainy and foggy when they see the hitchhiker, and those who stop to help get a strange feeling about the person. While the story changes from here depending on where it's being told, one thing seems to stay the same. The hitchhiker always disappears from the car.

North Carolina has a similar tale. The tale of the hitchhiking phantom, or, as it's now more commonly known, Lydia's Bridge. 

So, let's explore the myth of Lyida and maybe discover the truth about who she was.
