Context both Historically and LiteraryThe historical context is the original author and audience being addressed. As well as the original situation and/or circumstances that caused the author to write the passage. This is the historical context. Without the historical context we will not be able to properly understand the situation or circumstances the author and their audience are facing.The literary context is the original language and use of words that the author and his audience would have understood. To understand key words we must use the strong concordance and lexicon:

Questions that must be ask and answered when you preach or listen to preaching:
Who is the author and audience?
Where is this taking place?
When was this written (time and/or biblical circumstance)?
What is the situation or circumstance happening?
Why is this passage necessary?
How can we relate to the author or audience?
What is our response or responsibility in light of the text?
