I was so sad when the book ended
I was so sad when the book ended! Delicious is Ruth Reichl's first stab at fiction and, in my opinion, she hit it out of the park! It's so easy to get lost in this novel; it's fun and light but also a dash of history, the characters are so well developed, the plot is interesting enough but not confusing, her use of dialog within the characters was so much fun (you'll see what I mean when you read Sammy's dialog), her imagery of the scenes made it feel like I was watching a movie unfold in my mind. Great job to Ruth Reichl, I cannot wait to see what she'll do next. If you love food and novels, you'll love this book... honestly, even if you're not crazy about food, this book is still a fun read. I can't imagine anyone that wouldn't enjoy this book
I could read her books forever
I am not sure if its because I love to eat and love to cook, but there is something about Ruth Reichl's books that I never want them to end. Her own life stories are beautiful and Delicious, her first work of fiction, is just as lovely. She writes about food in a way that you can picture it and taste it right off the pages of the book. You want to get up and start cooking right away. I met her once and told her to please keep writing her books. I am so glad she has. I hope this will not be her last work of fiction.

This is the first book I have ever read that made me want to write a review. I love Rachel Reichl's autobiographical books and this fiction piece was a treasure to find. She is such a descriptive writer. When she describes the taste of food I can smell it. Her descriptions of restaurant experiences puts me right there with her. Her knowledge of food and ingredients is mindboggeling and this story is a fun vehicle to showcase it with. She is my second favorite descriptive writer and I cried when this story came to an end. Like Billie I wanted one more letter, one more meal, one more chapter to wet my appetite. I know I will reread this book one day in the future, I am adding it to my list of comfort books.
Foodies beware
Although this turns into an interesting story with some historical information, it is not what one would expect from Ruth Reichl. Admittedly it is her first novel, one would still hope to find lots of food information other than beautiful cheese descriptions and one amazing cake recipe Still as stories go, this holds one's attention to keep following the main character's quest.
A TASTY REPAST
Although I enjoyed the trip through New York, particularly the West Village, I kept confusing Billie with the author. I know it is not supposed to be autobiographical, but you can't avoid the comparison.
