Denial and Rationalization are two defenses we run to when we believe our own wisdom is the best choice for making decisions. This may not be a deliberate choice, but a place to run to in times of need, when survival is the priority and change is not desired.
Surviving sometimes takes precedence over working through difficult disciplines for ultimate change. When scripture is lacking in our lives, one of the natural fallbacks is into a pattern of denial and rationalization.
It may be surprising to discover that comfort zones can conceal a root of unbelief.
