Opening statements started on Monday March 29, 2021. The state is trying to prove Derek Chauvin used deadly force which resulted in the death of George Floyd.  The defense is saying George Floyd died from a drug over dose and Derek Chauvin's knee was not a deadly weapon.  Force was needed because George Floyd was a threat to himself and his fellow officers.  The crowd is being blamed for aggression so the officers could not properly care for George at the scene and their attention was diverted.
