The Nomad Strength Show

DEREK WOODSKE | Evolutions in Athlete Development

Listen Later

Whenever I get the chance to dive really deep and nerd out on programming and development, I love it. When I met today's guest, Derek Woodske, at Winterstrong a couple months ago, I knew I would have the same conversations with him.
Funny enough though, we spent a great deal of time connecting over Montana, North Idaho and the part of the country we both love so much.
This episode started a bit like that as well, but we quickly got into a lot of great areas of the things that have changed in athlete development in the last few decades. Derek gives some great insight into what is working now, and how to apply a lot of these ideas into an athlete's program.
For any coaches out there, or anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of training, you'll love this conversation.
HIGHLIGHTS:
What training programs in high school used to look like
What considerations to make for recovery protocols
Some talk on PED's and what they really are
Derek's idea that athlete's take a year or two before going to college to compete
Programming blocks for athletes and how to incorporate an "A, B, and C" program
