I was recently intrigued by the subtitle of a book I saw that asked, “What if GOD isn’t who you think he is?” Which prompted a second question for me: And what difference would that really make in life? 

To the first question: Your conscious-level mind will always give you the intellectual, theological answers about who you think GOD is:

-GOD is Love; GOD is holy; GOD is grace; GOD is sovereign, supreme, and awesome in wonder; GOD is patient, just, merciful;-GOD is glorious; GOD is a father, and so on.

But if you really want to know the answer of your heart, examine the subconscious, automatic ways you typically assess yourself, react to others, and respond to circumstances taking place in the world around you.

This week we’re wrapping up our series on the Three Essential Elements of a Renewed Mind, based on Romans 12:2 which tells us it is the renewed mind that enables you to discern GOD’s will – his good, pleasing, and perfect will for your life and his world.

So, we’ve already seen GOD’s exceedingly abundant contribution toward the renewed mind. He allowed for our fickle and devasting choice of will, but HIS nature remains constant – GOD gives and gives and gives. He’s all about giving for our best. In fact, it could be said that GOD’s FOR giving. And he desires us to do the same. It’s not transactional. In other words, he doesn’t demand something first or in exchange for his unbridled grace over your life.

The first essential begins with having Capacity – Capacity is the ability to contain and maintain a renewed mind. And your capacity rests entirely in GOD’s mercy and lovingkindness, where He converted the chaos of an unredeemed mind through the redemptive work of Christ on the cross to give you and me the opportunity to begin again – born as a new creation with the potential for holistic transformation – spirit, mind, and body.
