Held live at Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD), the return of designFUTURE Conference after 2 years was inaugurated with talks by DPA CEO Seah Chee Huang and 3 esteemed speakers hailing from academia and civil society. Mr Bjorn Low of urban farming organization Edible Garden City spoke at length about the growth and necessity of urban agriculture within Singapore. Dr Emi Kiyota, Associate Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and College of Design and Engineering at NUS and the Director (Program) of the Health District @ Queenstown, expounded on ibasho, a community-based care built on a model for empowerment. Dr Bige Tunçer, Associate Professor at SUTD’s Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar and founder of the university’s Informed Design Lab, illustrated how data could be amalgamated with design elements to generate greater social impact. Ar Seah Chee Huang examined the opportunities and potentialities within Singapore’s urban future through the lens of Golden Mile Complex, a renowned piece of Singaporean architecture with historic significance.
