In this episode, we do our weekly update of our week after reading with a history field trip and good tutorials, then we move onto our topic of aesthetics in architecture and also architectural education (in our projects). We talk about what aesthetics are; functionality vs aesthetics and the saying of 'form follows function' in architecture; composing a hero image for our project in architecture school, and developing an eye for aesthetics as a designer and also in real life. We finally wrap it up with how we think aesthetics/visuals influence our design projects and how we balance it with more grounding aspects, and why aesthetics could be important.

In this episode, we first caught up with each other for our reading week and how we felt over the week: Yen Shan going on holiday and Glory feeling low in energy.
Then we discuss our experiences of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) in secondary school and university, why we get FOMO due to unhappiness and insecurities, how we feel inclined to say yes to everything despite having too much on our plates already (especially in first year!). Then we also discuss our experiences and negatives with social media, particularly Instagram stories and the pressures of posting and the idea of the. 'highlight reel'. We also go through tactics and ways to overcome our FOMO: being grateful, reflection and surrounding yourself with good people.

In this episode, we are joined by a special guest Dan, who is Glory's unit tutor! We talk about how he got into architecture and his story in getting into architecture; tutoring students versus being a student yourself, and the progression of architecture education, just an informal chat about all the things archi related!
Thank you again Dan for joining for this episode!

In this episode, we talk about everything mental health related: the struggles we went through in first and second year with balancing school and personal life; getting help in terms of counselling services at university and outside and how they helped; our different coping strategies such as good time management, friends & family, and just learning to chill; and finally whether it's necessary to struggle from a creative standpoint. We also go through our bad mental experiences this week of how Glory almost got scammed and cried, and how studio culture and talking to someone may be a way to dissipate negative energy. Hope you can relate to our experiences and enjoy!

In this episode, we do a weekly catch up for the first two weeks of our third year, how we feel about getting back into a routine, meeting people again and going back to the studio. We then share our experiences of moving out from home, living abroad in London, the differences between living alone in halls versus living with flatmates. We also discuss potential problems with flatmates, such as syncing schedules, confrontation, awkwardness, cleanliness and how to deal with them. Finally, we talk about what we learned from these different experiences from 2-3 years and how we learned more about ourselves and how we act.

In this episode, we have a special guest, Nicole, who is studying biochemistry at UCL. We go through her journey of doing research regarding the gut microbiome in UCL, how it shaped her as a person and her lifestyle. We talk about the differences between our courses and her story of coming from Germany and realising how she loves science and research in the lab. Finally we talk about how we should 'listen to your gut', involving intuition and decision making, our experiences with listening to our body and trusting our gut during the academic year, in both architecture and biochemistry.

In this episode, we discuss our experiences for our second year summer, activities we did and lessons we learnt, including internships, creating this podcast and creating content online (why we started it). Glory shares an interesting internship & sports story and learning about HK culture while Yen Shan talks about how her non-architecture internship experience was valuable. Finally, we talk about our fears, hopes and expectations for our third and final year at the Bartlett.

In this episode, we discuss our thoughts after reading "The Fountainhead" (1934) by Ayn Rand. After a quick summary, we discuss individualism vs collectivism;l whether we agree with the author's views in architecture. We relate the plotline to our experiences in the Bartlett and whether architecture is about copying or innovating or improving; and also relate the characters to our own personalities. Finally, we also talk about if you can have too much confidence in the authenticity in your work even if it can be 'bad', and if there is really is a purpose in producing work when no one can appreciate it.

In this episode, we go through different personality tests (MBTI, Enneagram, Strengths & Weaknesses, The Big 5 Personality) and find out what our personality type for each one is, and whether we find it to be accurate or not based on different scientific research and our own experience. We discuss the issues, problems and limitations for each test, such as confirmation bias, inconsistency in results, and our subconscious tendencies to subscribe to an 'ideal self'. We explore how these tests can actually help in real life, and whether it is useful to categorise ourselves and other people. We then discover a hidden and surprising use for these personality tests with identifying others around us.
