How Michael Carrick Can Turn Man United's Season Around
Manchester United’s season hasn’t gone entirely to plan — but Michael Carrick still has the pieces available to turn it around.
And perhaps the biggest solution is also the simplest: stop overcomplicating things.
In this video, I’m looking at how Carrick can get significantly more from this Manchester United squad by putting players back into their natural roles, creating a more balanced team and building around the qualities of players like Matheus Cunha, Amad and Carlos Baleba.
Cunha could be absolutely central to that. United need to find a structure that allows him to receive the ball in the areas where he’s most dangerous, rather than asking one of the squad's most creative attacking players to constantly adapt around everyone else.
The return of Amad should help enormously. His ability to carry the ball, create chances and provide genuine threat from his natural areas gives Carrick another weapon — and potentially allows other players to return to positions that actually suit them.
Matthijs de Ligt's return could be equally important defensively, providing experience, physicality and another option as Carrick looks for a settled defensive structure.
But perhaps the biggest transformation could come through Carlos Baleba.
United's midfield has lacked the right combination of athleticism, ball-winning ability and progression for years. Baleba offers a completely different physical profile and could change how aggressively United press, how quickly they transition and, crucially, how the midfield around him is constructed.
Carrick doesn't necessarily need to reinvent Manchester United.
He needs to simplify them.

How Man United will IMPROVE after the International Break
For once, Manchester United have managed to get through an international break without being the biggest circus in English football.
While the extraordinary Manchester City scandal continues to dominate the headlines, things around Old Trafford have been strangely quiet — and that might be exactly what Michael Carrick and this Manchester United squad needed.
In this video, I’m looking at why United could emerge from the international break considerably stronger as the Premier League season resumes.
Senne Lammens has been given valuable time to continue adapting to life at Manchester United and working with the coaching staff. After an encouraging start, the hope is that we now see an even more settled goalkeeper as the season develops.
There should be reinforcements elsewhere too. A fully fit Amad immediately gives United another dimension with his creativity, ball-carrying and ability to change games, while Carlos Baleba has the opportunity to become increasingly important to the balance of this midfield.
Then there’s Kobbie Mainoo.
After everything surrounding his role and future, a rested Mainoo could be hugely important during the next phase of the season. United need control, technical quality and options in midfield — and this is an opportunity for Carrick to properly utilise the squad he has available.
United haven't suddenly become perfect. There are still questions surrounding the defence, consistency, squad balance and whether this team can deliver every week.
But quieter surroundings, returning players and valuable time on the training ground could make this international break a genuine turning point.
And with Manchester City dealing with rather bigger problems across town, maybe United can concentrate on football for once.

How David Ornstein Broke the Disgraceful Man City Scandal
David Ornstein broke one of the biggest stories in Premier League history when he reported that Manchester City had been found guilty of almost all the financial charges brought against them.
But how did the story actually break — and what happens now?
Following Ornstein's appearance on a special episode of Stick to Football alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, we finally have a clearer picture of the reporting behind the Manchester City verdict and the enormous legal battle still to come.
Ornstein explains the process behind one of football's most closely guarded stories, before the discussion turns towards what the verdict actually means for Manchester City, the Premier League and the clubs who competed against them.
The Premier League has since officially confirmed that an independent Commission found City guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of its financial rules across nine seasons, as well as three of the four alleged breaches concerning City's failure to cooperate with the investigation.
And this story is nowhere near finished.
On Stick to Football, leading sports barrister Paul Gilroy KC joins Ornstein to explain the legal situation, potential sanctions and what an appeal could mean for the timeline. The episode specifically examines possible points deductions, relegation, ownership consequences and even the question of City's previous titles.
Manchester City maintain their innocence and are expected to challenge the findings, meaning the focus now shifts towards the appeal and sanctions processes.
So after years of allegations, leaked documents, investigations and legal arguments, this video looks at how the story finally emerged — and why the next chapter could be every bit as significant.

How Man United Must REACT to Man City's Charges
Manchester City’s guilty verdict should force Manchester United to look at more than their rivals. It should also encourage some uncomfortable questions about the people currently running our own football club.
In this video, I’m looking specifically at three areas: Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox and the Glazer family — and asking what Manchester United should learn from the biggest financial scandal in Premier League history.
Berrada is now Manchester United’s CEO and oversees the club’s business and football operations, but he previously spent years within City Football Group, ultimately becoming Manchester City’s Chief Operating Officer and CFG’s Chief Football Operations Officer. City have now been found guilty of serious financial breaches covering 2009/10 to 2017/18, including findings involving artificially inflated revenues.
That does NOT establish that Berrada personally participated in wrongdoing. But given his senior career at City, I think United supporters are entitled to ask what he knew, what responsibilities he held and whether United should provide greater transparency around the due diligence conducted before making him arguably the most important executive at Old Trafford.
Then there’s Jason Wilcox.
Wilcox built his reputation partly through Manchester City’s academy operation before eventually becoming Manchester United’s Director of Football — a position that now places him at the heart of recruitment, coaching appointments and United’s wider football strategy. Again, association is not evidence of wrongdoing. The more relevant question is whether his experience and subsequent record demonstrate that he is the right person to lead Manchester United's sporting rebuild.
And finally, the owners.
The Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test includes disqualifying events involving matters such as fraud, corruption, certain regulatory sanctions and breaches of key football regulations, while incumbent directors are subject to ongoing review.
That doesn't mean the Glazers currently fail the legal test. But it raises a bigger question: is football's definition of a “fit and proper” owner strong enough?
Manchester United should demand accountability from Manchester City.
But we should demand exactly the same standards from our own club.

What the Premier League's Guilty Verdict on Manchester City REALLY Means
Manchester City have now been found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules — but the verdict itself is only the beginning of what could become one of the most consequential stories in English football history.
So what does it actually mean?
In this video, I’m breaking down the Manchester City charges without the noise: what City have been found guilty of, what happens during the sanctions process, the expected appeal and just how severe the eventual consequences could become.
The case concerns financial conduct stretching back to the 2009/10 season, including findings relating to the accuracy of financial information supplied to the Premier League, sponsorship revenue, costs and cooperation with the investigation.
But a guilty verdict does NOT automatically mean Manchester City are being relegated, their titles are being stripped or previous Premier League runners-up are suddenly being handed medals.
Those are separate questions.
The next major battle surrounds punishment. Potential sanctions available under Premier League rules can include financial penalties, points deductions, suspension or, at the most extreme end, expulsion from the competition. City continue to dispute the findings and are pursuing the appeals process.
Then there are the wider ramifications.
What happens to the clubs who competed against Manchester City during this period? Could rivals pursue compensation? Could City's historical titles ever be affected? What does this mean for Pep Guardiola's legacy? And after years of uncertainty, how does the Premier League impose a punishment capable of reflecting breaches on this scale?
This isn't the end of the Manchester City case.
In many ways, it's the beginning of the most important part.

The Sad but Inevitable Decline of Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho was once one of the most exciting young footballers in the world. Manchester United spent £73 million to finally sign him from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 after one of the longest transfer sagas in recent memory.
Five years later, at just 26 years old, Sancho is without a club.
In this video, I’m looking at the complete rise and decline of Jadon Sancho — and how a player who produced extraordinary numbers in Germany and looked destined to become one of England’s defining talents has reached this point.
His Manchester United career never came close to expectations. Different managers, different positions and different tactical systems failed to unlock the player we saw at Dortmund, before his public fallout with Erik ten Hag ultimately left his Old Trafford career beyond repair.
But leaving United didn't fix everything.
A return to Borussia Dortmund brought moments of promise and a run to the Champions League final, but was followed by further loans at Chelsea and Aston Villa without Sancho ever truly rediscovering the consistency that made him one of Europe's most valuable young players.
Now the situation has become even more remarkable. Sancho left Manchester United as a free agent in 2026, Dortmund have publicly played down another return and recent reports claim Russian champions Krasnodar rejected the opportunity to sign him after he was offered to the club.
This isn't a video celebrating somebody's downfall. It's trying to understand how it happened.
Because when you look back through Sancho's career, there wasn't one single moment that caused his decline. Instead, there is a sequence of transfers, performances, relationships and decisions that gradually took one of football's brightest young talents to where he is today.

Pep Guardiola's Football Legacy Has Changed Forever...
Pep Guardiola will go down as one of the most successful and influential managers in football history — but following Manchester City’s reported guilty verdict on 114 of the Premier League’s 115 charges, can his incredible career ever be viewed in quite the same way again?
In this video, I’m looking beyond Manchester City’s potential punishment and asking a different question: what does all of this mean for Pep Guardiola’s football legacy?
Guardiola transformed Manchester City after arriving in 2016, eventually winning six Premier League titles and the Champions League. However, the period covered by the Premier League case runs from 2009 to 2018, meaning the final two seasons of the alleged breaches overlap with Guardiola’s time as manager.
And remarkably, Manchester isn't the first club from Guardiola’s career to subsequently become engulfed in a major financial or governance controversy.
At Barcelona, Guardiola produced arguably one of the greatest teams football has ever seen, winning 14 trophies between 2008 and 2012. But the ongoing Negreira case concerns payments Barcelona made to companies connected to José María Enríquez Negreira, then vice-president of Spain’s refereeing committee, between 2001 and 2018 — including Guardiola’s entire managerial reign.
Importantly, the Barcelona investigation has not produced a final judgment establishing that Guardiola or his team benefited from manipulated refereeing, and Guardiola himself has not been accused of wrongdoing in either case.
But when two defining periods of one manager’s extraordinary career become surrounded by controversies of this magnitude, is it reasonable for football fans to reassess how that legacy is viewed?

Man City Found GUILTY: What Happens Now?
After years of investigations, hearings, arguments and uncertainty, the verdict that could change English football has reportedly arrived: Manchester City have been found guilty on 114 of the 115 Premier League charges against them. (Yahoo Sports)
In this video, I’m breaking down exactly what the Manchester City verdict means, what the original charges were about and — crucially — what happens next.
The case dates back to February 2023, when the Premier League charged City with more than 100 alleged breaches relating principally to the period between 2009 and 2018. The allegations included issues surrounding the accuracy of financial information provided by the club and cooperation with the Premier League’s investigation. City had consistently denied wrongdoing. (Sky Sports)
Now the conversation turns towards punishment.
At the time of recording, reports say sanctions have not yet been determined, while Manchester City are expected to appeal the verdict. That means questions surrounding potential points deductions, financial penalties and other sporting sanctions remain unresolved. (Yahoo Sports)
And then there’s the enormous historical question.
City won multiple Premier League titles during the period covered by the case. So what — if anything — could this verdict mean for Manchester United, Liverpool and the other clubs who competed against them?
This is one of the biggest legal and financial stories English football has ever faced — so let’s break down what we actually know.

Man United SIGN Karim Cassim from Man City... but What's the Plan with our Youth Recruitment?
Manchester United have officially signed highly-rated 17-year-old midfielder Karim Cassim after his departure from Manchester City — another fascinating addition to an increasingly aggressive youth recruitment strategy at Old Trafford.
Cassim is an England youth international who has represented his country up to Under-17 level and was part of the Manchester City squad that won the FA Youth Cup last season. But this video isn't just about Manchester United signing another exciting wonderkid.
I want to understand the bigger plan.
Under INEOS, United have increasingly targeted some of the best young players available from rival academies and overseas markets.
Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven arrived from Arsenal, while United have also pursued highly-rated youngsters from Manchester City and Liverpool.
It's an exciting strategy — particularly for a club with Manchester United's history of developing young players.
But recruiting wonderkids is only half the job.
Recent uncertainty surrounding JJ Gabriel raises an important question: once Manchester United collect all this elite young talent, what does the pathway into the first team actually look like?
In this video, I’m looking at Karim Cassim, United’s wider academy recruitment strategy and whether INEOS are building a genuine pathway for the next generation — or simply stockpiling potential.

The Real Reasons Behind the Current Sorry State of Manchester United Football Club
Manchester United remain one of the biggest and highest-earning football clubs in the world. So why does the club continue to feel like it is fighting problems everywhere you look?
In this video, I’m going beyond Michael Carrick, transfers and results to examine the bigger picture behind the current state of Manchester United: the finances, ownership, treatment of supporters and decisions being made away from the pitch.
United’s recent financial reporting presents a complicated picture. The club reported improved operating profitability and a 29% year-on-year increase in adjusted EBITDA across the first nine months of FY2026, while its previous reporting also showed substantial borrowings and use of its revolving credit facilities.
At the same time, the relationship between Manchester United and sections of the fanbase has deteriorated further.
Supporters protested around the Manchester Derby following the club's crackdown on alleged ticket touting, with United confirming 685 accounts had been banned and hundreds more sanctioned. A banner inside Old Trafford read: “The Way You Treat Us Is A Disgrace.” (The Guardian)
All of this comes against the backdrop of more than two decades of Glazer ownership and the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS — which was supposed to represent the beginning of a new era.
