In this episode of Gazali, we chat with Devaki Pandit, an Indian
classical vocalist, about her musical program ‘Advaita.’
‘Advaita’ is a musical expression of the spiritual journey of
seven women saints of India. It is a tribute to these extraordinary
poetesses—Andal (Tamil Nadu), Akka Mahadevi (Karnataka), Janabai,
Muktabai (Maharashtra), Gangasati (Gujarat), Mirabai (Rajasthan), &
Lalleshwari (Kashmir)—whose poetry reflects their divine love for
the Almighty & the essence of their spiritual journeys. This
concert has been conceptualized by Devaki Pandit after studying the
literature & poetry of these women saints in their respective
regional languages, in order to understand the socio-cultural &
folk music traditions of their times. The performance offers a
glimpse into the expressive power of these saint-poetesses through
their vachanas, abhangas, vaakh, dohas, & bhajans. Their life &
poetry have inspired & uplifted all those who aspired to tread
the path of spirituality. Advaita is scheduled for 5th January 2025
at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda.
