Show Summary

What do you say when people ask you what you do for a living? Do you turn into a deer caught in headlights? Today we’re going to change that. And I’m going to show you how in 20 seconds you can win people over. I’m going to help you craft a perfect elevator pitch that you can use everywhere you go.

What do you want to be known for?

What does your business do? Focus on who your ideal client is. Forget all the features and technical jargon and just focus on the benefits and solutions you offer.

Nutshell

Sometimes there are so many things we do that we really need to get it into that nutshell. A lot of people want to talk about their background etc., and people stop listening. You have to win them over in the first couple seconds. So very simple I’m going to give you a couple of fill in the blanks.

I’m a _________. That’s what you do.

So in this case, I’m a marketing expert. I’m your online marketing mentor.

I help _____________________(your ideal client or intimate category). In other words, who do you help?

For me today it’s entrepreneurs. We’re online marketing mentors that help entrepreneurs.

Let’s keep going. I’m a _______. I help ___________. To do what? ________________ In other words, what do we help people do? This is where you want to put in the benefit of your service.

We help people get new clients and take their business to the next level.

Next, so they can do what? What’s the benefit of all this? _______________________

So they can earn more revenue, have a successful business, not go out of business, and find more time to spend with their families to achieve their goals and to do what they’re passionate about.

I’m a ________.

I help _______ to _______

so they can______.

If you think of those things,   then be prepared to answer them real quickly.

Imagine you and I meeting for the first time and after you ask what I do I say “I’m a marketing mentor. I help entrepreneurs to take their business to the next level so they can be successful.”

Business Cards

Your elevator pitch is to engage them and get their attention. If they’re your ideal client, the person is going to engage with you and keep talking. But, it’s all pointless, if you just end the conversation and walk away. Exchange business cards or phone numbers. One of the key elements of an elevator pitch is the very end. Get the information to help follow up. If you are down to your last business card, take a picture and text it to them. By doing this, they have your card, and you now have their phone number.

Be approachable

Be approachable in crowds. If you are looking down at your phone in Starbucks, nobody is going to speak to you. If you are trying to build your business get out of your comfort zone, put your phone away, make eye contact, uncross your arms and wave and smile at people.

Key takeaways
