Devils in the Box - A Man United Podcast

This week, we are back from a long, explosive international break and ready to get back to business at Old Trafford. Joe previews our massive upcoming clash against Tottenham Hotspur, breaking down exactly how Michael Carrick’s men can exploit Spurs' energy and chaotic seasonal start to take all three points.

But the real story of the week is off the pitch. The verdict we have all been waiting for is finally here: Manchester City have officially been found guilty by the Premier League. Joe reacts to the damning 40-page document that outlines a multi-year conspiracy to cheat the financial regulations. We rant about the awful charges, the sheer scale of the deception, and demand the harshest possible punishments—because anything less than real punishment is an insult to the rest of the league.

Episode Talking Points:

• Spurs at Old Trafford: Tactical preview, injury updates post-international break, and how we punish Tottenham's high line.

• The 40-Page Verdict: Reacting to the official Premier League document finding Manchester City guilty of financial breaches.

• A Multi-Year Conspiracy: Dissecting the awful details of City's financial doping and the sheer scale of their cheating.

• Demand for Justice: Joe discusses the potential ramifications and why appropriate justice must be the only acceptable outcome.

This week, we are dropping an emergency reaction episode to process the biggest, most disgraceful scandal in Premier League history. After years of waiting, the verdict is finally in: an independent panel has judged Manchester City guilty on 114 out of 115 charges for breaching financial regulations between 2009 and 2018.

Joe jumps straight on the mic to rant about the sheer scale of the cheating—from inflating sponsorship income and disguising Abu Dhabi funding, to paying players and managers entirely "off the books."

We break down the ramifications of this massive ruling, discussing the potential ultimate sanctions under Premier League Rule W.51, which include heavy points deductions, stripped titles, and total expulsion from the top flight. Plus, we look at City's expected appeal and what this inevitable delay means for the integrity of English football.

Episode Talking Points:

• 114 Times Guilty: Reacting to the historic independent panel verdict that proved nearly every single financial charge over a nine-year period.

• The Blueprint of a Disgrace: Joe dissects the most shocking allegations, ranting about disguised sponsorships, off-the-books payments, and a complete refusal to cooperate.

• Stripped Titles & Expulsion: Breaking down Rule W.51 and the potential reality of City being kicked out of the Premier League or losing their tainted trophies.

• Delaying the Inevitable: Discussing the expected appeal process and how City will attempt to drag out the enforcement of their sanctions.

This week, we are dropping a special deep-dive episode putting INEOS's ownership and control completely under the microscope. Can they actually bring Manchester United back to the top, or is the club rotting from the inside out? Joe breaks down the absolute highs and the very dark lows of the Ratcliffe era so far. We start with the positives, praising a much-needed overhaul in recruitment where we finally stopped paying the "United Tax" and secured genuine value over the last two seasons.

But then, we get into the controversies. We dissect Sir Jim Ratcliffe's highly controversial political comments regarding immigration that sparked outrage among the fanbase, the brutal corporate cost-cutting that saw hundreds of rank-and-file staff lose their jobs, and the disastrous season ticket sweep that alienated loyal supporters.

We also look at the chaotic executive merry-go-round—including the baffling 5-month tenure of Dan Ashworth and the constant managerial sackings. Finally, we call out the board's most recent failure: leaving Michael Carrick out to dry by not backing him with a desperately needed LB, CB, and backup striker in the latest window.

Episode Talking Points:

• The Good: Praising INEOS's strict new recruitment ethos, ending the days of being overcharged, and finding real value in the market.

• The Controversies: Reacting to Ratcliffe’s political interviews, the ruthless wave of 250+ staff redundancies, and the botched campaign that stripped loyal fans of their season tickets.

• The Merry-Go-Round: Analysing the chaotic planning failures that saw Ten Hag extended then sacked, Amorim dismissed after 14 months, and Dan Ashworth fired just months after his expensive arrival.

• Carrick Left Hanging: Joe questions the board's ambition after failing to secure a left-back, center-back, and backup striker despite the manager's public pleas.

This week, we are dropping a short reaction episode to process a completely uninspiring draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage today. Thank God for the international break because United is not a positive watch right now.

Joe jumps on the mic to break down exactly why United looked so incredibly predictable from the first whistle, dissecting the agonizingly slow build-up play every single time we tried to launch an attack.

We also ask some hard questions about the team's shocking lack of fight and desire out of possession, and how we allowed ourselves to be completely outworked and outran by Arbeloa's men all afternoon.

Episode Talking Points:

• Rescued by Cunha: Reacting to Matheus Cunha saving our blushes and snatching a point from a thoroughly stale performance in London.

• Predictable and Ponderous: Joe dissects why United's tactical setup has become so easy to read and why our attacking transitions are moving in slow motion.

• Where is the Fight?: Calling out the alarming lack of desire, intensity, and basic aggression from the boys when out of possession.

• Outworked in the Capital: Breaking down the frustrating reality of watching Fulham simply want it more and completely outrun us across the pitch.

This week, we are dropping a special emergency reaction episode because absolute shockwaves have just hit Carrington. Reports from Matt Law, Laurie Whitwell, and others have confirmed our worst nightmare: academy wonderkid JJ Gabriel has formally asked to leave Manchester United and have his contract cancelled immediately.

This shocking news has put a massive damper on the entire club just as we were starting to build some real prospects within the academy. Joe jumps on the mic to process the unthinkable, reacting to the heavy rumors that Gabriel's dad might be the leading force behind this sudden exit strategy.

We break down the fallout, the sheer frustration of potentially losing our brightest talent, and ask the ultimate question: is this relationship completely unrepairable, or can INEOS pull him back from the brink before he is gone for good?

Episode Talking Points:

• The Wonderkid Bombshell: Reacting to the shocking reports from Matt Law and Laurie Whitwell that JJ Gabriel wants out of Manchester United immediately.

• Contract Cancellation: Processing the unprecedented demand to have his registration completely torn up.

• Family Interference?: Discussing the rumors that Gabriel's father is the primary driving force behind this sudden push to leave Carrington.

• Point of No Return: Joe debates whether this bridge is completely burned or if the club can somehow repair the relationship before losing a generational talent.

Special Note: Please remember that JJ Gabriel is a young 15 year old talent. We should not be having to tell people to not abuse the lad online and yet we have seen stuff already. The blame lies either with the club or his family. He will do one thing and focus on his football.

This week, we are picking up the pieces from a deeply infuriating derby defeat to a 10-man Manchester City at Old Trafford.

After Phil Foden saw red in the 23rd minute for violent conduct against Bruno Fernandes, the stage was set for United to take total control. Instead, Joe dissects a toothless, frustrating performance where the boys completely lacked a sharp edge and failed to capitalise on the man advantage.

To add insult to injury, City grabbed the winner through a hugely controversial Erling Haaland goal—where an offside Enzo Fernández launched into a flying header, clearly distracting Lisandro Martínez from closing down the space. We react to PGMOL's bewildering claim that Fernández "didn't play the ball" and the wall-to-wall pundit outrage, including City's own Joe Hart admitting it was blatantly offside.

Episode Talking Points:

• Wasting the Advantage: Dissecting United's lack of killer instinct and poor game management against 10 men after Phil Foden's early red card.

• Toothless Attack: Joe criticises the team's inability to break down City's low block despite having over an hour with a numerical advantage.

• The Offside Scandal: Breaking down Erling Haaland's winner and how Enzo Fernández's phantom leap interfered with Lisandro Martínez.

• PGMOL Under Fire: Reacting to the official statement, VAR's incompetence, and pundits—including Joe Hart—calling out the decision.

This week, we are reacting to a deeply frustrating 2-2 draw away at Everton. Going from a 5-2 high-scoring fest at home against Ipswich to dropping points on Merseyside within a week is peak Manchester United.

We break down the shockingly poor game management in the dying moments, analysing exactly how we let Ainsley Maitland-Niles snatch two points from us at the absolute death with a 96th-minute stunner right after Benjamin Šeško thought he'd won it for us.

We try to shake off this bitter pill and turn our hopes toward Thursday night, when Michael Carrick's men finally welcome Champions League football back to Old Trafford with our opening clash against Sabah.

Episode Talking Points:

• The Goodison Collapse: Analysing the poor game management in the dying moments and how we allowed Ainsley Maitland-Niles too much space for his 96th-minute equalizer.

• Peak Manchester United: Navigating the massive emotional swing from dismantling Ipswich 5-2 at home to throwing away vital away points just days later.

• Šeško's False Dawn: Reacting to Benjamin Šeško's late goal that seemed guaranteed to seal all three points.

• European Nights Return: Shifting focus to Thursday as Michael Carrick's side prepares to host Sabah FK under the Old Trafford lights for our opening Champions League fixture.
