Devoted to God

Listen Later

Romans 12 is a chapter we should read frequently along with Matthew 5-7 and Ephesians 4-5. It contains one of the best summaries in the Bible of how to live as a Christian.
Romans 12:1

Acceptable = pleasing

Spiritual service of worship = reasonable worship

In ancient times, God’s people worshipped Him by offering animal sacrifices.

– lamb for a peace offering
– a bull for a sin offering
– turtledoves or young pigeons for a burnt offering

Sacrifice: the act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something else or to help someone

What does God ask to be a sacrifice? Why should we be willing to go through with this?

Romans 5:6-11; 6:23; 1:24-32
Romans 12:2

Be conformed = passive voice

World = age
Prove = test

Satan works hard to spread deception in this age

2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 5:19; Revelation 12:9

Romans 12:1-2

Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, through the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living, holy sacrifice, pleasing to God, your reasonable service. And do not be shaped together with this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, for you to figure-out what the will of God is, what is good and pleasing and perfect.
