Whenever someone we care about is in the midst of suffering, our initial gut reaction is to desire to comfort them and to stop their pain and suffering. Yet, we can find ourselves in Job’s story when we see how his friends do not provide a comfort to him by relying on simple and easy answers and clichés. Instead, Job shows us the power of presence and encouragement.
