The Indian Premier League 2021 is underway amidst strict protocols and bio bubbles due to the raging COVID19 pandemic that has firmly gripped the nation. Although playing to empty stands and fake crowd noises to mimic the enthusiasm of the crowd, the excitement among the fans has not died down a bit. The players too have been putting up an impressive display of skill that has truly justified the price tag that the franchises have doled out.
One of the most popular and successful teams in the league, Chennai Super Kings, has just been dealt with a double blow and a serious handicap in their pursuit of the famed trophy for the fourth time. Their enigmatic captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and their highest all-time run-getter Suresh Raina have been reported to be leaving the Chennai camp.
Chennai Super Kings or CSK are currently 2nd on the IPL table having lost only their opening match. They are also the highest in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR) which can give a good indication they are far more prepared and hungry than last season where they barely managed to keep themselves off the bottom of the table.
Apart from Faf Du Plessis and Suresh Raina, most other players have chipped in with handy contributions with Curran, Bravo, Rayudu and Jadeja being exemplary in the roles they do. Dhoni, although, not performing as well as he would have liked with the bat, has been a pillar of strength for the team with his shrewd captaincy and glovework behind the stumps.
However, this performance is set to take a hit if the information that we are getting from our sources within the CSK dugout is to be believed. The CSK team has been through quite a bit of turmoil in the past few seasons including finishing in the bottom 3 last season and being banned for 2 seasons on corruption charges before that. This was projected to be their season for redemption.
