PODCAST. Are your patients with type 2 diabetes asking about cinnamon or taking it? Have you had this happen? They have prediabetes but don’t want to take a drug. Weight loss is top of mind to us but here’s the disconnect. Instead patients look first to the pharmacy or online for supplements to lower blood glucose versus weight loss or medication …anything without a prescription particularly if they perceive it as natural.

In fact, a Sydney Australia survey of complementary and alternative medicine use among people with diabetes, mainly type 2, indicated that 25% of respondents use cinnamon to treat their diabetes.

Whether it’s sprinkled on your latte or oatmeal, cinnamon is an aromatic spice popular the world over. Adding cinnamon to food is an easy way to add more to the diet but it’s different from supplementation.
