Canada needs regulations to ensure drugs get to those most in need. E-Petition e-4697 on ourcommons.ca is asking Federal / Provincial / Territorial governments to implement regulations to ensure those in need get their medication. There are lots of recommendations, recommendations / ethics don't have teeth, the drug shortage is increasing not improving.
Canadian drug supply should remain in Canada for Canadians. Type 2 Diabetic medications shouldn't be prescribed for vanity / cosmetic weight loss (weight loss where there is no health benefit) during times of shortage. Insurance plans, during a drug shortage, should quickly cover alternatives. Should new patients be prescribed drugs that are in short supply? Should those that prescribe medications do an in person assessment vs. virtual? Should there be better monitoring of on-line pharmacies and on-line weight loss services?
