Listen Later

Guest: Matthew J. Greenhawt, MD, MBA, MSc
Guest: Anna Nowak-Wegrzyn, MD
Food allergy is a growing public health concern, with an estimated 4% of adults (9 million) and 8% of children (nearly 6 million) affected by food allergies. Tree nuts are one of the eight main foods responsible for 90% of food-induced allergic reactions; others are peanuts, cow’s milk, eggs, soybean, wheat, fish and shellfish. Allergy to peanuts and tree nuts is the leading cause of fatal allergic reactions in the United States, and while the overall the prevalence is not significantly increasing in adults, the rate of increase has been substantially greater among children. Join Dr. Matthew Greenhawt and Dr. Anne Nowak-Wegrzyn as they discuss the diagnosis and management of tree nut and peanut allergies.
