“Why do bad things happen to good people?” This is a common question and one that is not easily answered when confronted with suffering and trials. The church of Jesus Christ is not immune to suffering. Yet, through the power of the resurrection of Jesus, God transforms sufferings. As we continue our Case Study series looking at the seven churches in Revelation 2-3, the scene shifts to Smyrna. The church in Smyrna is suffering at the hands of violent persecution. Jesus speaks to this church with a simple message: just hang on. Instead of promising to alleviate suffering, Jesus reminds them that because He was resurrected, they will be also.
