Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. In this Quick Hits episode, Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy jumped on trying to give a primer for the second half of the season, but no sooner did the new break that COVID had once again F'd with the Yankees season, postponing the Thursday night game with the archirival Red Sox. So, of course, that dominated the conversation.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. It's raining in Queens, but everyone except the Brewers want Jacob deGrom to pitch, especially Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy. NOT TONIGHT! The game got rained out three minutes before the guys went on air, but that did not stop them from lamenting about what a deGrom start means in 2021. There are many sides to it!

The Yanks head West with their hats their hands. Riz is all over it, as his team plodded to a 42-41 start that has fans of the Yankee Empire in a tizzy. Fear not, as he has been the voice of reason throughout the turmoil and continued in this episode to find a path for the Bronx Bombers to get back into the playoff mix. Yes, it ALWAYS involves (Cousin) Anthony Rizzo.

The guys did a first-half retrospective, with a focus on the Mets and Yankees. Before going on the air, they worked offline with Katie Healy on some social media stuff, so if you're here after seeing the TikTok or Quick Hits video somewhere, then we welcome you as a Diehard! We go in depth on the Mets-Yankees surprise player, disappointment and trade target at the halfway point.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. In a podcast about baseball and about life, Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy did their "Thursday Night Live" format, just after Jacob deGrom left the Mets-Braves game, trailing 3-2 after a "human" outing. deGrom allowed three of the first four batters in the game to score, but ended up with 14 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched. Listen in as Dawg labored through the bizarre Mets-Braves finish in real time.

The Yankees entered the day 41-39, but their play recently has driven the public and their fans into a panic about what to do about it. Fear not, "Doctor" Riz has the plan to fix it, and it's an extension of what he prescribed earlier in the season when the Yanks hit a similar skid. Some interesting names would end up on the corners in Yankee Stadium if Brian Cashman could make good on these deals.

What happened on this date (July 1) in 1987 and 1992? Listen in to find out. You'll also get background on the NCAA's handling of the sudden dismissal of NC State from the College World Series, the lauding of new champions Mississippi State, and the curious final "out" off a bunt from Vanderbilt.

Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was Jeff Casucci, the cousin of Riz & Dawg's dear friend, Fr. Russ Murray, who was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, cousin, and uncle that passed away suddenly at the age of 49. Jeff is survived by his wife of 24 years and best friend, Alicia, who he met while at Airborne School at Ft. Benning, and their four children. Jeff and Alicia were married Oct. 26, 1996, the day his Yankees defeated her Braves in the World Series. The West Point graduate Served 5 years as artillery officer at Ft. Sill, Okla. He kept supporting vets after he left active duty. Jeff served for five years as the president of Sticks for Soldiers, Inc., a charitable organization designed to raise awareness among high school lacrosse players about the sacrifices of U.S. veterans. Jeff and Riz shared an alma mater, Bergen Catholic High School.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. In a podcast about baseball and about life, Riz & "The Dawg" Jeff Healy welcomed 1989 AL Rookie of the Year Gregg Olson to the show to tell his important story and harken back to his great career as one of the preeminent closers of his time.

Olson explained the details of his recent prostate cancer diagnosis and how it came seemingly from out of nowhere, with no family history and being in otherwise excellent health. He explained his story, and in sharing his message gave the many reasons why anyone out there should get tested.

Then it was on to brighter things. Riz threw some interesting stats at Gregg about his career, leading to discussions about current hot-button topics like the unwritten rules of baseball and the sticky stuff pitchers have been using to increase spin rates. Gregg also revealed what he would have patented from his playing days, as he was way ahead of his time! There was talk of radar guns, Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan, and what those flamethrowers would be throwing today.

Since he is a closer, Gregg closed out the episode with a short story for Diehard Dads.

Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was Navy Captain Paul "Puck" Esposito, a friend and colleague of Gregg's at Auburn. He served and deployed numerous times throughout his career. He accumulated over 4,300 flight hours in his distinguished career.

Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was TSGT Frank Peregory 29th Infantry Division, Virginia Army National Guard. Peregory earned the Medal of Honor on June 8, 1944, helping liberate the town of Grandcampe, France in Normandy. After artillery and tank fire were unable to destroy German machine gun positions, he braved machine-gun fire to crawl 200 yards uphill to wipe them out. He single handedly killed or captured 50 enemy soldiers.

Riz and "The Dawg" Jeff Healy "celebrated" Jarred Kelenic Day, as the Mariners' top prospect was promoted to the majors and set to play his first career big-league game. How did we get here? Riz & Dawg have debated the deal that sent Kelenic to Seattle since before it was official (Dec. 3, 2018), and now it was time for a retrospect and some background about their many debates on this subject over the years, outside of the Diamond Diehards airwaves.

The guys hit pitch after pitch on this one:

- The Angels' life after Albert Pujols, including insight into what manager Joe Maddon said on another podcast, with Jayson Stark and Doug Glanville, that happened on the field the next night. Yes, Shohei Otani was right in the middle of it!

- Barstool president Dave Portnoy had COVID twice, and now some of the Yankees apparently have, also, despite being full vaccinated

- Matt Harvey's emotional return to Citi Field to face the Mets

- Is the pressure in Seattle now off Evan White?

Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was Hugh Miller, who was a rising star outfielder over 100 years ago in the Federal League, when duty called. Private Miller, USMC, earned the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism at the key WWI battle of Belleau Wood. Injured in the war, likely robbing him of a great baseball career, Miller received his DSC from General Pershing, which he said was the highlight of his life.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz and "The Dawg" Jeff Healy did a Star Wars Day show, so May the 4th be with you!

There was so much going on in baseball and the guys covered all the bases. Jacob deGrom got scratched from his start for the Mets in St. Louis as the guys were hitting the air, but they were able to go with it and do an early assessment of what this means to Dawg's club. There was an examination of some of the Mets' pitchers injuries over the years.

The Mets had previously fired hitting coach Chili Davis late the previous night, in a move that made waves, as prized shortstop Francisco Lindor had not hit at all in his first month in Flushing. What does it mean to the organization, and to Lindor? It was up for discussion.

Tempers have flared around baseball, and some of the run-ins were brought up by the guys, not to mention the dubious umpiring calls that have reared their ugly heads the first month of the season. Did they blame everything on Adrian Hernandez? Maybe. And as the world blames Commissioner Rob Manfred for everything that is not right with America's Pastime, Riz & Dawg gave the commish a fair shake, at least, and broke down some of the "new" rules they do not like or could at least live with, and why.

The timing of losing streaks matters to big-market teams more than others! Riz explained the method behind his tweet and indicated the reason for the Yankees' resurgence to .500 at 14-14 after a 5-10 start that had fans feeling like the sky was falling.

Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz and "The Dawg" Jeff Healy did Tuesday Night Live, as the Yankees took on the Orioles and the Mets faced the Red Sox. While the games were going on with little incident, the guys broke into some serious critique of the structure of the Yankees roster.

Riz & Dawg identified what they think are the critical flaws (not always in agreement). Riz came up with some ideas to revamp the outlook, and you're going to want to hear the proposals. Outlandish? The moves might sound like it, but there is a lot of reasoning behind what and how it could happen. Riz's Yankees potentially could look a world different with just a single player-for-player trade.

Dawg kicked it off with Veteran of the Day. It was US Marine Corps Veteran and former MLB outfielder Rick Monday. Monday, while playing CF for the Cubs at Dodger Stadium on April 25, 1976, famously saved the American flag from being burned on the field. Monday still owns the flag.

Joe Rizzo (usually) brings you baseball. Riz gave the "A" seat to "The Dawg" Jeff Healy for this episode, which came on the one-year anniversary of Riz ending his two-week quarantine after contracting COVID. Dawg walked Riz through what happened during the time he had COVID. The guys recounted their landmark episode last year, when in the early days of Diamond Diehards, Dawg took over and walked Riz through talking about what he was experiencing. That April 15, 2020 episode remains the most-downloaded in our history.

What marked the anniversary was Riz getting his vaccine earlier in the day. Feeling few ill effects of his first shot, Riz nonetheless handed the reigns to Dawg, who did his first-ever show opening and closing! In between, there was talk about things that have changed in the world and in baseball as a result of the pandemic, an update on some of the interesting happenings in MLB, and a Diehard Dads segment to close it out.
