December 1: Do not forget who you are and what you have in God.
Psalm 87: 1-7
Psalm 88: 1-9

Psalm 87 is a different psalm from the others in its theme. It is a poem from Jerusalem about those who dwell in it. It is the expression of privilege that the inhabitants of this city felt and feels. When we study Psalm 76, on November 23, with the title "Find justice on Mount Zion", we noticed the double nature of this city, representing the special authority over the nations for being the city of the Great King, and the spiritual authority because it is the city of the House of God, the city chosen by God and where everyone had to go for their sins to be forgiven.
Here are mentioned several nations that were witnesses of the birth of this nation: Egypt, Philistia, among others who admired and even feared at times the greatness of Jerusalem, because they knew that this was the city of the Great God of heaven and earth; a God who dwells so close, that they could see from a distance a pillar of cloud in the day and a pillar of fire at night! They knew that the God who brought them with a mighty hand out of Egypt, sending plagues and destruction to their enemies, was the same God who parted the Red Sea for them. The surrounding nations knew their mighty God, the God of Israel, who helped them conquer Jericho, a fortified city that no one had ever dared to confront because of its might and reinforced walls.
If only the Israelites had maintained this level of knowledge and their consciences were clear to see themselves as other nations saw them, they would never have left God's ways and His law.
One of the lessons we can learn today is that the enemy knows the great privilege you have to have been called and chosen to be part of the people of the living God! The fact that you are a Christian and have accepted Jesus Christ, as the promised Messiah to save the world, gives you a great advantage over those who don't yet know Him and don't yet have access to the great promises that you and I have, those of us who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus.

The next psalm, 88, is the reflection of someone who has been touched by death. The psalmist felt like he was in a grave, about to die, to be buried and eliminated from this world. Apparently, it is the condition of someone who is already tired of evil. To get to the point of being alone, without friends or relatives. He described this situation as waves of the sea. I think that all of us who have had the opportunity to go to the beach have been swept away by waves of the sea. You swallow salt water, your ears burn, you get sand in your eyes, hair and mouth, etc. When you get out of the wave, the shock is immense and you feel that you were close to drowning. This is how the psalmist felt. The advantage was that he was crying out to the God who forgives, who gives new opportunities.

First, you must consider and never forget that you are in a position where many admire you and the enemy fears you. Do not lower yourself in sin or fear the enemy. Do not give space to lose what you are and have in God by not clearly seeing what you are and have in the Lord. Second, cry out to the Lord to help you when the waves roll over you.

Diciembre 1: No olvides quién eres y lo que tienes en Dios.

Salmos 87:1-‬7 RVA2015:
Su cimiento está sobre montes de santidad; el SEÑOR ama las puertas de Sion más que a todas las moradas de Jacob. ¡Cosas gloriosas se cuentan de ti, oh ciudad de Dios! Selah
“Yo inscribiré a Rahab y a Babilonia entre los que me conocen. He aquí Filistea, Tiro y Etiopía. Se dirá: “Este nació allí”. De Sion se dirá: “Este y aquel han nacido en ella”. El mismo Altísimo le dará estabilidad. El SEÑOR dirá, al inscribir a los pueblos: Selah
Y tanto los que cantan como los que danzan dirán: “¡Todas mis fuentes están en ti!”.

Salmos 88:1‭-‬9 RVA2015:
Oh SEÑOR, Dios de mi salvación, día y noche clamo delante de ti. Llegue mi oración a tu presencia; inclina tu oído a mi clamor porque mi alma está harta de males y mi vida se ha acercado al Seol. Soy contado con los que descienden a la fosa; soy como un hombre sin fuerzas. Estoy libre entre los muertos, como los cadáveres que yacen en la tumba, de quienes ya no te acuerdas, y que han sido arrebatados de tu mano. Me has puesto en la honda fosa, en lugares tenebrosos, en lugares profundos. Sobre mí reposa tu ira; me has afligido con todas tus olas. Selah Has alejado de mí a mis conocidos; me has puesto como abominación para ellos. Estoy encerrado; no puedo salir. Mis ojos se enfermaron a causa de mi aflicción. Cada día te he invocado, oh SEÑOR; a ti he extendido mis manos.


El salmo 87 es un salmo diferente a los demás en su temática. Es una poesía de Jerusalén acerca de aquellos que habitan en ella. Es la expresión de privilegio que sentían y sienten los habitantes de esta ciudad. Cuando estudiamos el salmo 76, el pasado 23 de noviembre, con el título "Encuentra justicia en el Monte de Sion", notamos la doble naturaleza de esta ciudad, representando la autoridad especial sobre las naciones por ser la ciudad del Gran Rey, y la autoridad espiritual porque es la ciudad de la Casa de Dios, la ciudad elegida por Dios y donde todos tenían que ir para que sus pecados fueran perdonados.
Aquí se mencionan varias naciones que fueron testigos del nacimiento de esta nación: Egipto, Filistea, entre otras que admiraron y hasta temieron en unas épocas la grandeza de Jerusalén, pues sabían que esta era la ciudad del Gran Dios del cielo y la tierra; ¡un Dios que habita tan cerca, que podían ver una columna de nube desde la distancia y una columna de fuego en la noche! Ellos sabían que el Dios que los sacó con mano poderosa de Egipto, enviando plagas y destrucción a sus enemigos, era el mismo Dios que abrió el Mar Rojo para ellos. Las naciones alrededor conocían a su poderoso Dios, el Dios de Israel, que les ayudó a conquistar a Jericó, ciudad fortificada que nadie jamás se había atrevido a confrontar por su poderío y murallas reforzadas.
Si tan solo los israelitas hubieran mantenido este nivel de conocimiento y sus conciencias estuvieran claras para verse ellos mismos como los veían las demás naciones, nunca hubieran dejado los caminos de Dios y su ley.
Una de las lecciones que podemos aprender hoy es que el enemigo sabe el gran privilegio que tienes de haber sido ¡llamado y escogido para ser parte del pueblo del Dios viviente! El hecho de que seas un cristiano y hayas aceptado a Jesucriso, como el Mesías prometido para salvar al mundo, te da una gran ventaja sobre aquellos que todavía no lo conocen y no tienen acceso todavía a las grandes promesas que tu y yo tenemos, los que hemos sido redimidos por las sangre de Jesús.

El siguiente salmo, el 88, es el reflejo de alguien que ha sido tocado por la muerte. El salmista se sentía como en un sepulcro, a punto de morir, de ser enterrado y eliminado de este mundo. Al parecer, es la condición de alguien que está ya cansado de la maldad. De llegar al punto de estar solo, sin amigos ni parientes. Él describió esta situación como olas del mar. Pienso que todos los que hemos tenido la oportunidad de ir a la playa hemos sido revolcados por olas del mar. Uno traga agua salada, le arden los oídos, se le mete arena en los ojos, cabello y boca, etc. Cuando uno sale de la ola, el susto es inmenso y siente que estuvo cerca de morir ahogado. Así se sentía el salmista. La ventaja era que estaba clamando al Dios que perdona, que da nuevas oportunidades.

Primero, debes considerar y nunca olvidar que estás en una posición donde muchos te admiran y el enemigo te teme. No te rebaje en el pecado ni temas al enemigo. No des espacio para perder lo que eres y tienes en Dios por no ver claramente lo que eres y tienes en el Señor. Segundo, clama al Señor que te ayudará cuando las olas te revuelquen.
