[Tensions have risen, and the precursors of the Civil War have emerged. Meanwhile, life went on as usual for the slaves in Southampton County, Virginia. At least, that is, until August 22, 1831. Over the course of a few days, Southampton would be painted red, and Virginia would never be the same. A wise and charismatic slave, Nat Turner, sparked the the redemptive and vengeful rebellion that unleashed terror onto the white residents of Southampton County.
