Did You Know? | Ep #12 - Bobby Caldwell: A Mystifying Generational Phenomenon

Listen Later

Bobby Caldwell is a musician that is most famous for his hit song "What You Won't Do For Love" that was released alongside his debut album in 1978. As part of the marketing strategy to promote his album, and as to not alienate his label's predominately black audience, they thought it was best to hide the fact that Bobby was actually white. It came as a massive shock when his fans saw him for the first time, expecting him to be black because of his singing voice alone! People have continued to be surprised by this fact, with a multitude of videos online reacting to his music for the very first time. It's a mystery of sorts that has spanned generations of music lovers. Today we look at his upbringing, his inspirations, how he thought about his music career, and more.
