The old market town of Rathkeale has a diverse history having welcomed a community of Palatines from Germany hundreds of years ago it now also is home to the largest traveller community in the country. Together the settled people and traveller community have a united pride in Rathkeale which boasts some of the best community facilities in the country, largely funded by the people of the town itself. Now home to the start of the Limerick Greenway, a project that was born out of community volunteerism by the local Rathkeale people, the town is now welcoming more and more visitors to experience its unique offering.
