Difference Between Oxford and Housewife Pillowcases

Do you know the difference between Oxford and housewife pillowcases?  Have you ever heard this name before? It is okay if you have not; these are not the terms you often hear in normal conversation. A pillowcase is a pillowcase for most people, but there are some subtle differences between the two types that need to be noted.

Housewife pillowcases are what we all recognize and think of as regular pillowcases, traditionally featuring a simple stitched edge that is standard rectangular, and fits well around pillows. No hassle and no extra features.

There is a lot of uncertainty about the origin of this unusual name, so I am not sure where it came from. The name is particularly interesting today, as the term 'housewife', especially when used in relation to household products, inevitably brings forth sexist connotations.

According to Linens & Hutch, the Oxford pillowcase is the housewife's elegant cousin and is made with a fabric border that surrounds all four sides of the standard pillowcase. 

It all depends on whether you are looking for something basic and purely functional or if you want your bed to look more decorative and beautiful.
