Once a place of connection, unprecedented information access, and radical self-expression, the systems and platforms that make up the World Wide Web have been bought up and consolidated by gargantuan tech companies who gutted and morphed them to maximize profits instead of maximizing purpose. Now flooded with AI slop, ragebait, and political propaganda and controlled by mysterious algorithms the incentivize low-effort "content" production and encourage anger and divisiveness, the internet feels more like a depository for a unique brand of garbage rather than the authentic web of connections it could have been.
