Still, I always read books and magazines on science and science fiction. That kept the wonder alive, the result always adding more questions than answers. There seemed never enough time to truly explore for answers or elusive connections. However, that continued reading helped to increase my awareness of the world outside myself.It increased my knowledge and understanding while at the same time establishing the incompleteness of what I knew. It moved me to a place outside myself. Fortunately, this lack of knowledge further fed the wonder. This inspired my book, The Evolution of Life: Big Bang to Space Colonies, self-published in April 2022 and available now on Amazon.Some 3.8 billion years ago an extraordinary event occurred that we call the “Big Bang.” This primal release of energy formed the universe and everything in it, including us. The Evolution of Life: Big Bang to Space Colonies offers a dramatic understanding of this event, the creation of matter, how life evolved on Earth, and the wondrous extraterrestrial future that awaits us as a species, as societies, and as communities.When you read The Evolution of Life, you will be led step-by-step along this magnificent journey to a new possible dawn for humanity. Although it often seems live in a quagmire of non-ending dysfunction, we only need to review the histories of societies to realize that there has been progress. Forward-looking people may never inherit the Earth, but they will lead us into the future. They may likely create a permanent presence in space for themselves and their progeny. That event could be instrumental in saving our Earth.But the future is unknown, and I ponder this too. This inspired a science fiction series, Outbound, which I am writing currently. Book One: Islands in the Void is available now and explores living "off-world" and the challenges we may face after a possible climate catastrophe. I love to discuss where our current and future technologies could take us and how we could sustain life in space.I am an alumnus of San Jose State University, with a master’s degree in microbiology. My studies also emphasized molecular biology and biochemistry. Several years after earning my MA, I obtained a Clinical Laboratory Bioanalyst license. In subsequent years I worked in various administrative and technical management roles in a laboratory setting. Beth Castrodale is an award-winning author and book reviewer with an interest in the paranormal. Her most recent novel, THE INHABITANTS, won the Horror category of the 2024 Best Book Awards, sponsored by American Book Fest. THE INHABITANTS also won the Horror category of the PenCraft Seasonal Book Awards for fall 2024. An excerpt from her second novel, IN THIS GROUND, was a shortlist finalist for a William Faulkner – William Wisdom Creative Writing Award. Her début novel, MARION HATLEY, was a finalist for a Nilsen Prize for a First Novel from Southeast Missouri State University Press. Castrodale also received an artist grant from the Mass Cultural Council. For the journal Ars Medica, Beth wrote about a traumatic brain injury that she suffered in 2009, and she is part of an ongoing study of brain-injured patients at the Ohio State University. Brian Townsend is a retired Supervisory Special Agent/Resident Agent in Charge with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Brian proudly served in law enforcement for 28 years; 5 years as a police officer in Joplin, Missouri, and 23 years with the DEA where he held a variety of assignments with increasing responsibility.Within the DEA, Brian served in three different formal leadership roles managing multiple people, programs, and resources. He worked in Corpus Christi, Texas, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Springfield, Missouri, to combat drug trafficking and reduce drug-related crime.In addition to serving in enforcement operations, Brian was assigned at the DEA Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia. There, Brian managed DEA’s specialized training unit and developed the leadership and development training unit. The leadership and development training unit still serves as the primary resource for leadership development throughout DEA and its extensive workforce of over 10,000 personnel.Currently, Brian serves as a Law Enforcement Training Coordinator for the Mid-States Organized Crime Information Center (MOCIC), a Regional Information Sharing System (RISS) Center supporting law enforcement in nine states (Kansas, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin). He is also the founder and principal of Eagle 6 Training, providing speaking, training, and consulting services to organizations worldwide.Most recently, Brian launched Only 2mg Inc. 501(c)(3), where he leverages his extensive experience and knowledge in the field of opioids. Brian is regularly invited to speak to audiences throughout the United States about fentanyl, focusing on raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of the opioid epidemic and illicit fentanyl crisis. His insights shed light on the evolving drug landscape and its devastating impact.Additionally, Brian serves on the Board of Directors for the Drug Enforcement Association of Federal Narcotics Agents (DEAFNA), continuing his commitment to supporting law enforcement professionals and the mission of combating drug-related crimes.Brian’s insights have been featured in numerous news organizations and publications, including FOX and CNN.
