Director Education: Sending the Board Back to School

Recent economic turmoil has presented a raft of new challenges for

company directors, but research suggests those who sit at the top
corporate decision-making tables are either too complacent or too busy
to consider upskilling. A study shows 80% of companies don't budget for
director education. But there's a compelling case for board members to
maintain a focus on professional development, argues world leading
boardroom researcher Andrew Kakabadse from the UK's Cranfield
University. A new emphasis on risk and the vexing succession issues that
emanate from the need for better skilled boards are just two reasons
why even seasoned directors should consider going back to school.
