Peter Alviti, 68, is the director of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation.
Mr. Alviti has served in that post since February 2015. He oversees five divisions, 700 employees, 1,100 miles of roadway, 60 miles of pedestrian and bike paths, five rail stations and 1,162 bridges.
In his first year, he devised a 10-year plan for repairing Rhode Island’s roads and bridges. He was the former director of Programs for Laborers International Union of North America and served as director of public works for the city of Cranston.
