This book is fantastic
I didn't realize that this book had been around for awhile. I was calling several people that like Cormac McCarthy and books that I enjoy and telling them I had a new guy they had to read. The joke is on me this book has been around awhile. All that being said it was a fantastic read. The plot make incredibly brutal characters seem logical and even a bit noble. I'd recommend this one to anyone that enjoys a bit of the darker side of people and characters.
Really filthy, horrifying white boys.
What made the experience of listening to Dirty White Boys the most enjoyable?
Hard to choose. This book is one-of-a-kind, IMHO. The three guys who break out of prison are repulsive. We follow their excrescent exploits with fascination and a great big measure of disgust. However, the writing is so good that one gets trapped in the suspense. The plot holds your attention very closely. Like, what abominable thing will they do next?
What did you like best about this story?
The plot is almost gripping. (It has been about a month since I finished this book, and I have forgotten many of the names.) The leader of the pack is revolting (I might run out of words for repulsive), an animal with no lower boundaries on his violent behavior. His buddy is a cipher who can't speak and will follow his leader to Hell. The other guy is trapped and cannot escape. The good guys, OTOH, are quite flawed, which is what makes them interesting. The hero is torn between his wife and his lover, who happens to be the widow of his dead partner. Much guilt?
Have you listened to any of Eric G. Doves other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have, although I can't remember any of the books' names. (Is anybody else near 68 having memory troubles like this? This is awful.) His voice is easy to listen to, and his range is quite good. This book does need an effective narrator. A less talented narrator might make many of the most violent scenes impossible to listen to. (You do need to know that there is some truly dreadful violence in this book. Can't have the entire plot without it.)
If you could rename Dirty White Boys, what would you call it?
I don't like Qs like this.
Pure Grit Entertainment!
I love thrillers, special forces novels, police, legal stories etc. but always really loved Stephen Hunter's books. This one stands out to me- really hardcore state trooper and some bad ass Oklahoma escaped cons on a rampage. Really great characters. Hardcore entertainment packed start to finish!
Dirty White Boys
Seldom will you read a Book such as this, describing in detail the inner feelings of an Officer who has to face the perils of the the big ugly world outside. I enjoyed this Book tremendously.
