What has happened to the idea the punishment and discipline serve a purpose when preparing a child for adulthood? Why do we no longer believe that holding a child accountable in educational settings, even for the very young makes a difference in how they view the world around them? I will draw from my professional and personal experiences in order to show how we have done a dis-service for those young people who have entered into adulthood, but cannot or refuse to see how their criminal behaviors affect the people and culture surrounding them.
