Discipline Is the Deepest Form of Self-Care

I've been thinking about the word "discipline" and how much I used to hate it.

It felt like punishment. Like deprivation. Like someone telling me I wasn't trying hard enough.

And for a long time, I replaced it with softer words. Gentleness. Rest. Honoring my needs. All the language wellness culture gave me to make everything feel less... hard.

But here's what I've learned: I was confusing self-care with self-soothing.

The comfort trap

There's this thing that happens when you spend enough time in wellness spaces. You start to pathologize discomfort. Any time you feel stressed, resistant, or uncertain, the message is clear: that's bad. That's your body telling you to stop.

And sometimes? That's absolutely true.

But sometimes discomfort is just growth. Sometimes resistance is just the feeling of building something new.
