When we hear the word “discipline” we think about punishment. In grade school we were disciplined for being kids and getting “out of hand”. In high school and college we were told to be disciplined in our studies to get good grades and graduate with flying colors. And at our jobs we’re told we need to be discipline and follow the bosses directions. And, in this way, discipline was and is a punishment. But the truth about discipline is much more than that. The act of being discipline is much more than following an arbitrary set of rules that our teachers had in school or doing as we’re told in our jobs. No, this type of discipline is control…it’s NOT discipline. And no one can control you but YOU.And THAT is what discipline is all about. It’s about have the self-control to do the things you say you’re going to do. It’s about following through with your word. It’s about being the type of person that goes against the norm of instant gratification and comfort-seeking. Being discipline is about doing what needs to be done to become the person you know you can be. THAT is discipline. And that is what we’ll be covering during this next series. In this episode (Part #1) we talk about:
- What words from 2,000+ years ago can teach us about discipline
- How discipline is the truest type of pleasure
- Why you can only reach fulfillment through the act of discipline
- How getting up in the morning reinforces or deteriorates your discpline
- So much more…
