KAPAEMAHU
We’d like to uplift Kumu Hinaleimoana Kwai Kong Wong-Kalu, known to many as Kumu Hina. Kumu Hina is Native Hawaiian māhū – a traditional third gender person who occupies "a place in the middle" between male and female. Kumu Hina is a co-director of KAPAEMAHU of the 2020 animated short film, which we hope is a contender for the Oscars! KAPAEMAHU is based on the long-hidden history of four healing stones on Waikiki Beach placed there as a tribute to four legendary mahu who first brought the healing arts to Hawaii. The film is narrated by Kumu Hina, in Olelo Niihau, the only unbroken form of the Hawaiian language. https://www.kapaemahu.com/
