On today's episode I am having a discussion about Discovering Joy as Your Birthright with Dr. Tanmeet Sethi.  Sr Sethi is a renowned Integrative Family physician and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine and has dedicated the past 25 years to working with the most marginalized communities and global survivors of major traumatic events. Dr. Sethi is also a TEDx speaker and the author of the inspiring book, "Joy is My Justice: Reclaim What Is Yours."   

Dr. Sethi's book emphasizes the importance of living joyfully regardless of circumstances, and in this podcast episode she shares her philosophy on why joy is our birthright and how we can claim it in our lives.  She also shares her personal journey that led her to this belief and how it transformed her perspective on life.

Dr. Sethi also clarifies the distinction between joy and happiness, providing insights into their unique characteristics and how they affect our well-being differently.  She explains why rediscovering joy should be viewed as an ongoing practice rather than a destination or solution, and she elaborates on how this approach can aid in healing from past traumas.

As the conversation continues, Dr. Sethi shares some of the common reasons many of us struggle with finding/cultivating joy and provides practical tools to help us rediscover joy in our lives. 

Lastly, we will discuss why Dr. Sethi's challenges the mainstream wellness definition of resilience and her unique perspective on what true resilience means in the face of adversity.  Including the exploration of the question "why not me" instead of "why me".
