Where you stand determines whether you stand.
As Paul begins Philippians 4, he calls followers of Jesus to “stand firm in the Lord.” But he does not leave that as a vague command. He shows us what standing firm looks like in everyday life.
It means pursuing unity when relationships become difficult. It means responding to anxiety with prayer, thanksgiving, and an awareness that God is near. It means taking responsibility for what occupies our minds and intentionally dwelling on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise.
Life will not always feel stable, but the unwavering life can be built on the immovable God. And when we stand in Him, we can rest in His peace.
