The Soviet Sleep Experiment — also known as the Russian Sleep Experiment — became one of the internet’s most infamous creepypasta stories. Five prisoners. A sealed chamber. An experimental stimulant. Days without sleep.
In this episode of Divergent Files, we dig into the Soviet Sleep Experiment myth, Cold War sleep deprivation research, MKULTRA, Project Artichoke, CIA interrogation methods, stimulant experiments, prolonged wakefulness, hallucinations, and what actually happens when the human brain is pushed too long without sleep.
Divergent Files — QUESTION EVERYTHING • FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE.
What if humanity is building its own successor? Ralph explores human evolution, artificial intelligence, brain-computer interfaces, and the possibility that we’re becoming parts of something larger. Ancient life inside our cells reveals that independent organisms have joined together before. Today, we’re handing more of our memory and thinking to technology, while researchers study digital organisms that evolve inside computers. Could these developments lead to something beyond us—and what place would we have in its world? We follow the evidence and explore where it leaves room for possibility.
Divergent Files: QUESTION EVERYTHING • FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE.
What did humanity really lose when the Library of Alexandria disappeared?
Some ancient works vanished completely. Others survive only because later writers happened to mention them. We explore Aristarchus and the lost idea of a moving Earth, the Archimedes Palimpsest, Eratosthenes measuring the planet with shadows, Hero of Alexandria’s strange machines, and the possibility that discoveries were made centuries before history remembers them.
We also look at what actually happened to the Library itself—and why there may never have been one single moment when it was destroyed.
The deeper mystery isn’t just who burned Alexandria.
It’s how much human knowledge disappeared without anyone realizing it was gone.
Divergent Files — Question Everything. Follow the Evidence.
Antarctica really does have enormous walls of ice. But the stories about what lies beyond them get much stranger.
From Admiral Byrd’s famous remarks about land “beyond the pole” to Flat Earth maps, Hollow Earth theories, hidden civilizations, the Antarctic Treaty, 24-hour sunlight, unexplored terrain, and the mysterious Serpent’s Gate, we follow the claims back to where they started—and separate what’s documented from what grew into legend.
Because the real mystery isn’t whether Antarctica has an ice wall.
It’s why so many people became convinced something was being hidden behind it.
A full-scale nuclear war could trigger a global famine capable of killing billions of people — including people thousands of miles from any explosion.
In this episode of Divergent Files, we follow the chain from nuclear winter and failed harvests to empty grocery shelves, disrupted supply chains, rationing, and the strange alternative foods researchers believe could help humanity survive a global food catastrophe.
Because the real question may not be whether civilization survives the bomb.
It may be how many meals civilization can afford to miss.
Crop circles were supposedly solved decades ago when people proved they could make them.
But proving some were fake never proved they all were.
In this episode, we look at the cases that refuse to disappear: strange plant changes, ghost formations, massive overnight designs, coded messages, witness reports, lights, mist, and the possibility that a small number of crop circles may have a very different explanation.
Were we too quick to close the case?
AI taking jobs is the obvious fear. But what happens when AI also starts replacing the work that teaches humans how to become skilled in the first place?
In this episode of Divergent Files, Ralph explores what GPS, aviation automation, AI-assisted learning, programmers, pilots, and disappearing technical expertise may be telling us about a much bigger problem: we may not just be outsourcing work—we may be outsourcing the practice that creates human competence.
The question is no longer only whether AI can do the job.
It’s whether we’ll still know how.
Ancient writers described a massive Egyptian labyrinth at Hawara with thousands of rooms, temples, courts, and underground chambers. Then most of it disappeared.
But modern surveys have detected organized structures beneath the site.
In this episode, we investigate the Lost Labyrinth of Egypt, what archaeologists found at Hawara, what may still be underground, and the stranger theories surrounding Atlantis, the Hall of Records, and a possible chapter of Egyptian history still waiting beneath the desert.
Does free will actually exist?
In this episode of Divergent Files, we look at the science and philosophy behind one of the oldest human questions: are you really making your own choices?
From Benjamin Libet’s famous experiments and brain scans that can reveal information about a decision before conscious awareness, to split-brain research, determinism, predestination, and the deeper question of what “you” actually means — this episode follows the free will debate wherever it leads.
If your brain starts making a choice before you know it, who exactly is doing the choosing?
What if the Great Pyramid was already ancient when dynastic Egypt arrived?
In this episode of Divergent Files, we examine the evidence and theories behind that possibility — from the Sphinx water-erosion debate and Orion alignment to massive granite blocks, strange engineering claims, Zep Tepi, and the idea that Giza may preserve the memory of a much older civilization.
Some of the evidence is established. Some is disputed. Some sits far outside the mainstream.
But if Egypt didn’t originally build the Great Pyramid, the obvious question remains:
Then who did?
From the publisher's feed
If a story feels a little too neat, too certain, or too conveniently wrapped up, I usually have a hard time leaving it alone.
That’s really how Divergent Files started.
I’m Ralph, Marine Corps Veteran, and Creator of Divergent Files. I’m not here because I think I have all the answers. Most of the time, I have more questions than I started with.
I just like digging into the stories that make you stop and wonder if there might be more going on than we were told.
Ancient civilizations. Human origins. UFOs and UAPs. First contact. Lost history. Strange science. Declassified documents. Government secrets. Archaeological anomalies. And sometimes the bigger questions hiding underneath all of them.
Who were we?
I try not to come into these stories with a team to defend or a conclusion I need to prove.
I read what I can. I look at the documents. I listen to the people involved. I try to separate what we actually know from what we think we know.
Sometimes the official explanation holds up.
That is the part I love.
This show is really just an invitation to come down those rabbit holes with me.
