Helping of Happiness

Diversity in Your Friendships and Experiences with Roselle Pliego (Episode #114)

Listen Later

Roselle Pliego is married and a mom of 3 kids. She’s a blogger and content creator @in_dfw _Family where she talks about wholesome things to do in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

Roselle had a great video on IGTV where she expressed her feelings after the murder of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter. Roselle’s biggest message is that she wants every one to be an feel treated fairly. Roselle talks about how Black Lives Matter all the time. Our lives always matter. It doesn’t need to take a horrific incident to make our lives matter.

The hardest part of all of this, was a lot of white people coming out with a stance that they support black lives and she feels like a lot of them are just reacting that way because it’s a hot topic right now. Another thing she brings up is to figure out what is the underlying problems in the areas that are experiencing more black on black crime? Is it unemployment, politicians, what is the underlying damage? How can we fix it?

Roselle feels sometimes she is cancelled by her community because she has different thoughts or ideas from them. She wants people to be more open to hearing other people’s thoughts and opinions with out being shut down. She would like to see more wholesomeness, joy and family love from others. She doesn’t want to forget or be blinded by the issues, but she wants to be able to talk about it, but bring light and joy into other people’s lives.

Roselle thinks the most change comes from each one of us learning more about each other. Go to different areas and exposing our kids to different people and cultures.

“What we’re going through in the black community, is a lot of people are complaining of black on black crime and lack of resources in their community. What I was trying to convey is we have a power and that power is that we can vote. And voting will help put people in place that aligns with what you want to make the change for good in the community. Lives matter before COVID, they matter after, and will continue moving forward. But we need to put the people in place that will care for those individuals, to make the change. And I feel like that’s been one of the underlying problems in the black community, is wrong leadership that isn’t putting their best interests at heart or in the forefront." - Roselle Pliego

Roselle goes on to say how she loves everyone, no matter your gender, race or creed. At this moment in time, black people are going through so much. All lives matter because she does love everyone, but right now the black lives are the focus and the pain we are sitting with right now. The intent behind saying black lives matter is that we are feeling the suffering and pain together.

The question now is are you going to ride the wave and support black businesses and restaurants right now because it’s a hot topic or is this a new way we will continue to support each other. Open up your circle and be more inclusive to everyone. Does everyone look like you? Self check your surroundings, who are you bringing into your home, who are you talking with? Is there diversity?

During COVID Roselle’s content has been more about her home than her foodie adventures and travels, but she is learning to be creative in what she shares.

It is so important to go out and VOTE.
