eirēnē (Greek: εἰρήνη) – a state of rest, denoting the absence or end of strife. It refers to a state of untroubled, I disturbed well-being. Peace; a state of natural tranquility.

It’s a feature of Jesus’ birth

  • Luke 2:14
  • God brought us peace through Jesus.
  • “eirēnē” is God’s desire for your life.

    • It’s a recurring theme of His death and resurrection

    • John 14:27
    • John 16:33
    • His death and ascension didn’t bring anxiety, but peace!

      • It’s an invitation

      • John 14:27
      • An invitation to something the world cannot give… true peace.

        • An invitation and a calling

          • Everything… everyone
          • Hebrews 12:14
            • Strive, pursue, chase after with a great deal of intensity.
            • Make it your ambition!

              • It’s a byproduct of faith and followership

                    • It brings God’s blessing

                        • “don’t suppose that I have come to bring peace (eirēnē) on earth…”
                        • The gospel brings division. It’s a stumbling block for some, nonsense to others – but for believers – the gospel brings peace.

                          • It can’t always be realized

                          • without Jesus there is no peace.
