Global Horizons - The Australian International Education Podcast

Diving Deep on Asian Languages and the New Colombo Plan with Liam Prince

Listen Later

One of the shining lights in Australia's international education and foreign policy agendas over the past decade has been the New Colombo Plan. Since 2013 the program has supported over 50,000 Australian university students to have international study experiences in the Indo-Pacific region.

But the challenges across our region are changing. In this episode, Rob Malicki is joined by Liam Prince, the Director of the Australian Consortium for In-Country Indonesia Studies (ACICIS), to break down the impact of the New Colombo Plan, and examine how Australia's attitudes towards the teaching of Asian languages at both school and university levels are impacting national capacity.

Liam has a huge amount of experience in international education and a deep knowledge of Indonesia, Australia's largest and fast growing neighbour.

In this episode of Global Horizons, host Rob Malicki and guest Liam Prince delve into the intricacies of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) and its role in enhancing Australia’s educational and diplomatic ties with the Indo-Pacific region. They discuss the renewed government commitment, the program’s impact, and the challenges of integrating it into university curricula.
