While passing through Pennsylvania recently, magazine publisher and event producer Chris Baker stopped into the Eastwood Garage for a visit. We sat down with Chris to talk about the surprising success he's had publishing car magazines in today's media environment, as well as how he sees the car and truck show scene changing.
A long-time GM fan originally from Michigan, Chris publishes CK Truck, a magazine dedicated to classic Chevy and GMC trucks, as well as GM Scene, which covers General Motors performance and enthusiast vehicles. In addition to the two publicatioins, he also produces the C-10 Nationals and Bowtie Nationals shows.
Another episode from the show floor at SEMA 2024, this time we its down with Brian Brennan from In the Garage Media, who publishes real live print magazines including Classic Truck Performance, Modern Rodding, and All Chevy Performance.
A veteran of SEMA (he was at the very first show in the late '60s) Brian sits down with us to share his thoughts on the changing hobby. He also discusses how he's surviving as a magazine publisher in this age of digital content and advertising. It's a great discussion for anyone who loves car culture, and especially car magazine fans.
On this episode, we're on the show floor at SEMA 2024 with DIY paint instructor Brian from Paint Society. He sits down with us at his first-ever visit to the big show to share his thoughts and reactions. We discuss the challenges, fears, and rewards of painting a car on your own, and he shares words of encouragement for first-timers.
As Brian says, "Don't overthink it, it's just paint!"
On this episode, we pull in our own video producer Adam to talk about the summer show season that's winding down. Bryan and Adam cover a whole range of events they attended, from the Good Guys National in Delaware to the high-end Radnor Hunt Concours. They dig into the surprising amount of overlap between mini-trucking and VW cultures.
Listen as they go deep in Nerdland on everything from custom builds to costume-party driving events and discuss what's still to come on their fall calendars.
