DJ Chip Chop - Freestyle Mix 5 (Freestyle is Born)

A personal favorite mix in my Freestyle Vault!

These are songs I grew up with from the "Be Boy Era"

This is First Generation Freestyle Dance Music at it's BEST!

This is where it all started. Early 1980's - Freestyle was born

Entire mix done from original vinyls (no cd's or MP3's then)

I remastered and removed pops for optimum listening enjoyment

Breakdancing, Popping and Uprocking were the craze. We didn't fight,

we "battled". Crews like RockSteady, Dynamic Breakers and NYC Breakers

competed on cardboard refrigerator boxes or big pieces of linoleum

(if they were lucky) sprayed with furniture polish for that

extra slippery surface giving you a better spin.

The "Boombox" (that needed a dozen D batteries) was our sound system.

We wore Lee jeans, Le Tigre shirts, Adidas with fat matching laces.

(British Knights for the night life)

Sheepskin & Bomber jackets, Gazelle glasses, Kangol hats

Record labels like Tommy Boy, Emergency, Streetwise, Cutting &

even majors like Atlantic, EMI and Sony pumped out this music

Clubs like The Roxy, Funhouse, LaMour East, Paleds, Heart Throbs,

Devils Nest, 1018, Avanti's, Roseland, Latin Quarter & so many others

were the only place you could see these artists perform.
