DJs Start Using an External Mixer

Listen Later

If you are a DJ and want to start using an external mixer, here are some basic steps to follow:

  1. Choose the right mixer: There are many types of mixers available, so make sure you choose one that is suitable for your needs. Consider factors such as the number of channels, input and output options, and effects.
  2. Connect your equipment: Connect your DJ controller, CD players, turntables, or other devices to the mixer using RCA or XLR cables. Make sure to connect the cables properly and double-check the connections.
  3. Adjust the levels: Use the gain knobs on the mixer to adjust the levels of each channel, so they are balanced and at the same volume. Adjust the EQ knobs to adjust the tone of each channel.
  4. Use the crossfader: The crossfader allows you to smoothly transition between two channels. Adjust the curve knob to adjust the smoothness of the transition.
  5. Use the effects: If your mixer has effects, experiment with them to add depth and texture to your mixes. Make sure to use them sparingly and appropriately, so they don't overpower the music.
  6. Practice, practice, practice: Like any new skill, it takes practice to get used to using an external mixer. Experiment with different techniques and play around with the settings until you find what works best for you.

Using an external mixer can give you more control over your sound and allow you to be more creative with your mixes. With some practice and experimentation, you can master this skill and take your DJing to the next level.
