Do Air Conditioners transmit Coronavirus?

Listen Later

Coronavirus has been proven to be transmitted through air conditioners of the aeroplane to 3 people coming to Nepal. Nearly 50% of people in the Diamond Princess Cruise ship were infected with coronavirus from AC which spreads through the duct of the AC if a proper filter or a HEPA filter is not used. The common filter can only filters particles greater than 5 microns and the size of coronavirus is nearly 0.1 micron which cannot be trapped by common and outdated filters and it travels along the duct of AC or HVAC in buildings and hospitals. In Singapore, a common patient came for treatment who wasn't infected from coronavirus but later on he tested positive and doctor claimed that he was infected from the airflow duct used in AC in a different room where air from the different rooms is exchanged due to lack of HEPA filter. So in Nepal, many hospitals have a central AC system but they don't have Hepa filter for which they are vulnerable to coronavirus. Being a biomedical engineering student and working in a similar field Abishek thought its also his duty to make awareness regarding the consequences in hospitals and other workplaces where central HVAC is used. If a single person with coronavirus enters the premises, the number of people who gets infected cannot be imagined. So better we need to check our AC filter whether it can capture particles up to 0.1 microns or not and switch to HEPA filter. For more queries, you may also contact Abishek Adhikari via a direct call to 9840525565.
