When we are saved Christ's righteousness is imputed to us. But wait, don't we still sin? Does sinning negate our salvation? John perfectly answers this question in this passage. We have a total cleansing from Jesus and a daily cleansing from Jesus. We will eventually be sinless. Justification means he sees us without sin. Sanctification means we sin less.
