It all started with a 1973 encounter and its obscure 1978 BUFORA write-up. Then it evolved into a wild string of "return" sightings through the 1980s, where Sam allegedly predicted real-world events. A 31-year-old mother is rushed into Riverside Hospital. The staff is alarmed by unusual smells and an oily sheen found on her body. Within minutes, nurses and doctors collapse to the floor, sending the entire ER into a frenzy. The entire floor is evacuated during one of the strangest and most-disputed medical mysteries of the modern era.

This is the unexplained case of Gloria Ramirez, a woman labeled as “the Toxic Lady,” after officials tried to explain what happened in the hospital that night by suggesting that her body was somehow producing a chemical weapon. Other professionals claimed mass hysteria. Yet the family claimed that the hospital was trying to cover up a documented history of toxic gas violations in the hospital.

Three delayed autopsies, sexism in healthcare, suspicious violations by the hospital, and conflicting eyewitness accounts created the most complex mystery of the 90s.

The enigmatic Mel Waters calls into a late-night radio show in 1997. He says there’s a hole on his Washington property that has no bottom. It swallows everything, including appliances, cow carcasses, and thousands of feet of fishing line that Mel uses to try to find the end. Dogs won’t go within 100 feet. Birds won't perch near its edge. One day, an odd coin appears in the dirt nearby, and a beam of darkness can be seen emanating from the hole at night. Soon, seedy government agents appear at Mel’s Hole. They cause him nothing but trouble as he tries to unlock the mystery of this ominous, bottomless pit. His increasingly bizarre journey continues over the course of five years. So in this episode, we try to uncover what exactly is true about Mel's Hole despite the seemingly impossible claims.

Chunks of bloody flesh rained down from a clear blue sky across the Crouch family farm on March 3rd, 1876. A “wagonload of meat” covered an area the size of a football field in Bath County, Kentucky.  Rebecca Crouch thought it was an omen, foretelling the violent fate of her husband and son who had gone into town that day. Others thought it was a sign from God and that the meat had supernatural powers.

In 1926, eccentric Toronto millionaire Charles Vance Millar left behind a bizarre will. His final clause was the strangest of all: his entire fortune would go to the Toronto woman who gave birth to the most children in the next decade. What started as a joke collapsed into one of the strangest, most controversial sagas of the Great Depression, known across Canada as “The Great Stork Derby.”

These are the stories of enslaved people that history nearly forgot. A network of enslaved men and women became the Union's most valuable spies during the Civil War, known as "Black Dispatches." The Confederacy thought their servants were too "simple" to understand the war happening in front of them. And this oversight cost them greatly.
